Y comenc\u00e9 a preguntarme sobre ese t\u00e9rmino con respecto a la misi\u00f3n de Pink Fund de abordar el desaf\u00edo de la toxicidad financiera.<\/p>\n<p>El concepto de \u201ctoxicidad temporal\u201d est\u00e1 ganando terreno. Los pacientes pasan horas, d\u00edas, incluso semanas o meses recibiendo tratamiento. Conducir a las citas, esperar en las salas de espera, someterse a pruebas, recuperarse: el tiempo se suma, pero rara vez se reconoce\u201d, escribe Elsa Pearson Sites, directora de pol\u00edticas del Centro de recursos de pol\u00edticas basadas en evidencia asociada de la Administraci\u00f3n de Salud de Veteranos.<\/p>\n<p>Sites es clara sobre la carga para los pacientes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLos pacientes son los \u00fanicos participantes del sistema de atenci\u00f3n sanitaria que no tienen ninguna experiencia formal. Son ellos los que pasan horas al tel\u00e9fono luchando con las compa\u00f1\u00edas de seguros para que les cubran la atenci\u00f3n\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La \u201ctoxicidad temporal\u201d y la \u201ctoxicidad financiera\u201d son dos conceptos asociados con el tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer que ponen de relieve los desaf\u00edos multifac\u00e9ticos que enfrentan los pacientes durante su camino con la enfermedad. Ambos resaltan las formas indirectas en que el c\u00e1ncer afecta a los pacientes m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del impacto f\u00edsico directo de la enfermedad y sus tratamientos.<\/p>\n<p>La toxicidad financiera aborda la carga econ\u00f3mica del tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer para los pacientes. Abarca m\u00e1s que los altos costos de bolsillo del tratamiento. El tiempo que se pasa durante el tratamiento en las salas de espera y durante la recuperaci\u00f3n puede equivaler a horas de ausencia del trabajo y a la p\u00e9rdida de salarios. Los viajes frecuentes a los centros de atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica pueden generar costos adicionales de cuidado infantil, transporte y alojamiento.<\/p>\n<p>En \u00faltima instancia, el objetivo de abordar la toxicidad temporal y financiera es garantizar que la calidad de vida del paciente se preserve tanto como sea posible durante y despu\u00e9s del tratamiento del c\u00e1ncer.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/media1.giphy.com\/media\/3TPRz46OllHyM\/200w.gif?cid=ecf05e47fxybrftzcetmz8t6dbqhscahaoya51du25u850gy&amp;ep=v1_gifs_search&amp;rid=200w.gif&amp;ct=g\" alt=\"GIF de los bibliotecarios de Downton Abbey\" \/>Desde el lanzamiento de Pink Fund en 2006, siempre me he preguntado por qu\u00e9 los protocolos de tratamiento en el \u00e1mbito del proveedor no son m\u00e1s sensibles a los horarios laborales y familiares de los pacientes, permitiendo infusiones y radioterapia por la noche y los fines de semana (\u00bfqu\u00e9 es un fin de semana?).<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de todo, imaginen si los pacientes no tuvieran que ausentarse del trabajo SIN REMUNERACI\u00d3N para recibir tratamiento. \u00bfEso reducir\u00eda la carga econ\u00f3mica que enfrentan, afectar\u00eda la adherencia al tratamiento, reducir\u00eda las quiebras relacionadas con la medicina y mejorar\u00eda los resultados de supervivencia?<\/p>\n<p>Los hospitales funcionan las 24 horas del d\u00eda, los 7 d\u00edas de la semana, y lo entiendo, la mayor\u00eda de los servicios despu\u00e9s del horario comercial \u00abnormal\u00bb se reservan para servicios de emergencia, como heridas de bala (y cuando tu hijo de cuatro a\u00f1os se choca contra el marco de una puerta en Nochebuena sangrando a borbotones y necesitando puntos).
